Copper Tube Extrusion Lubricants for Extreme Pressures & Complete Pyrolysis
In modern copper tube plants, the tribological behavior of the mandrel release agent dictates both tooling longevity and internal surface purity. Our synthetic wax formulations provide an ultra-stable hydrodynamic boundary layer during extrusion and undergo 100% ash-free thermal decomposition during subsequent annealing.
Mitigating Mandrel Wear and Internal Carbonization
Continuous copper extrusion involves immense contact pressures and billet temperatures frequently exceeding 850°C. Standard hydrocarbon-based or heavily graphited lubricants struggle to maintain film integrity under such thermo-mechanical stress, leading to direct metal-to-metal contact, micro-welding, and accelerated die wear.
Furthermore, conventional oils crack under these conditions, forming persistent carbon chains. During the final soft-annealing process in a protective atmosphere (e.g., hydrogen/nitrogen mixtures), these residual hydrocarbons fail to evaporate, baking into the tube's internal surface. This results in "annealing stains" (Glühflecken) which drastically reduce capillary soldering capabilities, failing DIN EN 1057 requirements.
The ExtruTherm-C Mechanistic Advantage
To counter this, PROMET's ExtruTherm-C series utilizes highly refined synthetic ester compounds. The high molecular weight provides exceptional load-carrying capacity at elevated temperatures (acting as wax-based lubricants for copper processing), effectively separating the tool interface. Most critically, the specifically engineered molecular bonds trigger complete, predictable pyrolytic decomposition at approximately 350°C.
The result is a structurally intact mandrel and an absolute zero-ash residue upon annealing, guaranteeing flawless brazing and capillary action for the end user.
